Dr. Kathleen Kiernan Named National Chair of the ‘Be Safe America Education and Preparedness Commission’

Its Goal: Save Lives at the Grassroots Level by Providing Active Shooter/Active Threat Education and Preparedness Training

Dr. Kiernan is the CEO & Founder of Kiernan Group Holdings, Inc. (KGH), where she oversees KGH’s work as an intelligence, law-enforcement and national security consulting, training and problem-solving firm that provides tailored solutions to today’s most complex challenges. She has innovated the approach of Preparedness Without Paranoia®, which is predicated on the fact that understanding the modern threat environment does not have to be an intimidating or overwhelming task. Dr. Kiernan, in partnership with Safe America, will be focused on providing online training starting this spring for faith-based communities, public and private school administrators as well as community leaders from coast-to-coast.

Safe America President & CEO Len Pagano announced the appointment of Dr. Kiernan noting that she will be one of three featured speakers at the two-day ‘Spring Symposium’ at the Federal Reserve Bank in Atlanta on April 26-27. Over 150 leaders from across the U.S. are expected to attend the initial planning phase of a program designed to build an educational program that encompasses a citizen engagement piece which helps all to prepare for, effectively respond to, and efficiently recover from an active threat.

“Parkland High School is the most recent reminder of an escalating violent environment that needs a whole of community approach,” noted Pagano. “With Dr. Kiernan’s leadership, we are going to assemble a national team that will bring common sense security sense to the whole of community, including civic organizations like Rotary and Kiwanis’ clubs.”

Kiernan maintains that any ordinary day can turn extraordinary. “An active threat can happen where we work, where we serve, where we learn, where we worship and where we spend our leisure time.  The key to mitigating today’s threat environment is for every citizen to know how to prepare for, respond to, and recover from these emerging threats. Safe America will seek to assure that every American is prepared with the tools to mitigate danger from active assailants; and that personal security should become as second-nature as obeying traffic signals, wearing seat belts, using smoke detectors, or wearing bicycle helmets.”Kiernan added, “Preparedness is a mindset.”

Among others who are joining the Be Safe America Education and Preparedness Commission are:

  • Alon Stivi, an Orange County, California businessmen and former Israeili Army veteran who has conducted national-level training
  • Jamey Moore, Assistant Vice President for WellStar Atlanta Medical Center

Pagano noted that thanks to support from a variety of other national and regional firms, Safe America is looking to conduct podcasts and other online (livestream) training as well as holding meetings in New York, Chicago, San Francisco, Los Angeles and Washington, D.C.

Pagano added that new smartphone apps are also being introduced with an Orange County, California firm called GoWare. The goal – to make sure everyone has the tools to survive dramatic crises.

Beatriz Rossello, the First Lady of Puerto Rico, is also planning to involve the ‘Capitol Leadership Network’ and it First Spouses Coalition. Mrs. Rossello, the mother of two young children, has been praised for helping raise over $30 million after Hurricane Maria last fall that was used to help rebuild Puerto Rico’s communities.

Individuals or organizations who wish to become involved are invited to attend the Spring Symposium at the Federal Reserve Bank. We want the Be Safe America Security Education and Preparedness Commission to not only engage the population and help them to become prepared, confident and capable of making appropriate and effective decisions if an active threat occurs, but to explore the art of the possible in terms of redefining citizenry engagement within the scope of a national campaign.
